Dreams

We bless God for His goodness and mercy towards everyone of us in 2018 and we trust Him for a more prosperous 2019 in every area of our lives and nation in Jesus Name.

This month, we shall be discussing “DREAMS”. The inspiration for this topic came last year but I believe, there could not be a better time for it, than now.

We all must have had at least one dream at one point or the other in our lifetime.

* Why do we have dreams?
* What exactly are dreams?
* Who brings dreams to us?

These questions and more will be our main focus on this intriguing topic.

First of all, let us find out the definition of ‘Dream’.

A dream is a succession of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that usually occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep.
The content and purpose of dreams are not fully understood, although they have been a topic of scientific, philosophical and religious interest throughout recorded history.
(Wikipedia)

The word ‘Dream’ appeared in 79 verses in the Old Testament and in 8 verses in New Testament.

From Genesis to Revelations, class, age, social background or status, gender, tongue and tribe did not hinder this act.

Why is this so? Let us find out from the Bible.

Genesis 20 verse 3,
“But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said to him, “Indeed you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.”

Interestingly, the first dream ever recorded in the Bible was from God to an unbelieving king and it was a warning.
Genesis 20 verse 6 also confirms that.

We could clearly see in the scriptures that God comes to humans to warn, instruct, direct, guide and give revelations of present, past and future events in dreams.
(Genesis 28:12, 31:10-11,24, Genesis 37, 41, 1Kings 3:2, Job 7:14, 33:15, Daniel 2:4, Matthew 1:20, 2:12-13, 19-22,
Matthew 27:19, Acts 2:17)

It is His special way of reaching out to us about other people, ourselves, objects, places, solutions to problems, spiritual warfare,
imminent dangers, blessings and so on.

Ever heard this saying that the easiest way, God reaches people when He has tried so hard when they were wide awake, is through dreams when they are fast asleep?

It is believed that this is due to the insensitivity and lack of discernment of spiritual matters, on the part of the people.

Howbeit, we bless God for making it very crucial to reach us at all cost through dreams.

SOURCES OF DREAMS

There are 3 main sources of dreams.

1. God ( as established in the scriptures)

2. Satan (he appears as himself and sometimes, he disguises in various forms, other times he comes through his co-horts and demonic agents in human forms)

3. Ourselves (through our daily activities)
Ecclesiastes 5:3,7
